IN THIS DARKNESS by Samuel Obono jnr

In this darkness,my mind peers
I see men rendered blind
Enbraced by their own fear
Enslaved by their own kind

The silence of many tongues
Even mine
The emptiness of a choking world

We stand still
Like naked mannequins
we are but scarecrows
terrifying ourselves
And laughing at our stupidity

In this darkness
The compass of redemption
Falls into the pit of negligence
Progress is but a mirage
So we remain-
helpless
like sleeping plants
Awaiting the come of a little light.
